Description

The AmeriCorps Afterschool Group Leader serves in the afterschool program called PC-BOOST.  This program is offered free of charge to 2nd and 3rd grade students at the following elementary schools: Apollo, Arbor Grove, Central, Hilldale, Overholser, Western Oaks and Windsor Hills.  The program is partially funded by an AmeriCorps grant.  Applicants hired for the position become AmeriCorps members who are assigned to serve at one of the BOOST program locations. 

 

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 18 years of age 
  • A high school graduate or has passed the GED 
  • A citizen of the United States or National, or a Lawful Permanent Resident Alien of the United States with supporting documentation
  • Dependable transportation

 

Reports to:  Afterschool Site Coordinator/Administrator

 

Required Documentation For Employment:

  • Government issued photo I.D. (e.g. driver's license)
  • Birth Certificate
  • Social Security Card

 

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Attend over 30 hours of training and once-a-month site meetings.
  • Lead 2-3 grade students in planned enrichment activities.  Minimal lesson planning and activity preparation will be required.
  • Manage a class of 15 students.
  • Prepare and distribute snacks to students.  Assist in cleaning up and putting away the snacks. 
  • Lead students in various games/sports/brain breaks which may require running, jumping and light to heavy aerobic-type exercise. 
  • Assist with daily student dismissal. 
  • Work collaboratively with other AmeriCorps members to develop and implement activities.
  • Interact with students as a positive role model utilizing quality standard techniques.
  • Track daily service times and record hours online at the end of each month.
  • Log weekly reflections and complete various program evaluations.
  • Fulfill any and all assigned duties for the site and for the program.

 

Terms of Participation:

September 11, 2018 – May 31, 2019

Commit to serving 300 or more service hours attainable by participating 2.25 hours a day, Monday-Friday 3:30-5:45 p.m. when school is in session.  Additional times outside of the designated schedule will occasionally be required.  

 

Training:

Thirty hours of training will be required before the program starts.  Training will include topics such as classroom management, teaching techniques, team building, afterschool quality standards and professional development.                           

Salary Range:

AmeriCorps member will receive a $375 monthly stipend (not to exceed $3,000) and a $1,230 educational award upon successful completion of serving 300 hours.

  

Evaluation:
Performance of this position will be evaluated at least two times a year, mid term and end term, in accordance with the provisions of the AmeriCorps evaluation process and the policies of the Putnam City Schools.
