TITLE: SCIENCE CURRICULUM SPECIALIST
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid teaching certification
- Master’s Degree required, with intensive
course work in curriculum development
- At least five years’ successful teaching experience in science
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction
JOB GOAL: To assist science teachers translate curriculum goals
and objectives into meaningful learning experiences for each individual student in the district.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Meets with teachers to interpret and help implement the district’s science curriculum.
- Assists science teachers, at their request, in the organization and management of classrooms for effective teaching and learning.
- Assists in the construction and evaluation of science testing.
- Serves as a consultant in the selection of supplies, equipment, books, and supplemental materials for science instruction.
- Assists principals, at their request, in the supervision of science instruction.
- Conducts demonstration classes and workshops and assists in the planning of other inservice programs for helping to raise the level of instructional performance in science.
- Participates in proposed and ongoing science curriculum development projects.
- Serves, at the request principals, in the hiring process and as advisor and special consultant to probationary teachers in the science field.
- Prepares, recommends, and monitors the science program budget as well as grants and budgets for program enhancement and teacher inservice.
- Provides an environment for innovation and change and maintains a close communication and coordination with the administrative staff, principals, peers, and teachers.
- Participates in professional organizations to provide a network of resource personnel.
- Serves, at the request of OSDE, on state curriculum and testing committees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Please note: To ensure continuity of services, remote work may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. An employee’s eligibility for remote work will be determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for remote work will be distributed by the employee’s supervisor, based on his/her role and responsibilities.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Eleven month year. Salary to be established by the Board.

accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy
on the Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
