TITLE:                                              Special Education Program Facilitator

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required with a Master’s Degree in Special Education preferred
  • Oklahoma teaching certificate: Mild/Moderate or Severe/Profound
  • 3 or more years recent special education experience (Moderate Cognitive or Severe/Profound preferred)
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws/regulations and best practices related to special education
  • Knowledge and experience with strategies, curriculum and assessments utilized for special education programs

(Moderate Cognitive or Severe/Profound preferred)

Knowledge and experience in behavior management and secondary transition

  • Experience providing effective staff development and training to a variety of audiences
  • Knowledge of best practices and current research related to special education

 

REPORTS TO:                                 Executive Director of Special Services 

 

JOB GOAL:              The Special Education program facilitator helps to facilitate the District's Special Education programs to ensure provision of needed services for students with disabilities. The facilitator provides individualized programs to meet the needs of all students with disabilities and ensure compliance with state, federal, and local requirements.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBLITIES:

 

  • Support the district and staff in the development and implementation of the general curriculum and/or alternative curriculum as appropriate
  • Support the district and staff in the area of assessment, including but not limited to IEP related assessments, progress monitoring, alternative assessments, transition assessments and functional behavior assessments as appropriate
  • Observe and coach teachers and teacher assistants in identified programs about effective practices
  • Conducts professional development for district staff and staff in identified programs as appropriate
  • Provides resources, training and support regarding secondary transition assessments and activities
  • Develops, supports, and trains staff for the ESY program
  • Helps maintain district compliance in areas required such as Child Count and District Data reporting
  • Assists with placing students in appropriate interventions and/or district programs
  • Identifies needs associated with district programs and makes recommendations for needed materials
  • Maintain an awareness of current research, trends and legal aspects of special education
  • Helps evaluate the District’s programs to ensure compliance and best practices are implemented
  • Helps to retain and recruit certified special education teacher, teacher assistants and staff
  • Networks and/or act as a liaison between various programs and community agencies such as DRS, Dale Rogers, Special Olympics, NAMI, OSDE and other available programs and agencies
  • Collects data, analyzes results, and reports findings as appropriate and related to identified programs
  • Helps evaluate the District’s programs to ensure compliance and best practices are implemented
  • Demonstrates leadership in identified programs and within the Special Services Department
  • Meet bi-weekly with the Special Services Department/Executive Director of Special Services
  • To ensure continuity of services, remote work may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. An employee’s eligibility for remote work will be determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for remote work will be distributed by the employee’s supervisor, based on his/her role and responsibilities.

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:       196 or 216 day contract  Salary to be established by the Board of Education.

 

EVALUATION:                               Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy.
