                                                        AmeriCorps Summer Enrichment Leader

 

Description:

The AmeriCorps Summer Enrichment Leader will serve in a high-energy summer program for students entering into grades

1st - 5th .  The summer program is offered free to students and is intended to provide additional reading remediation as well as to help reduce summer learning loss.  On Fridays when the students are not at the program, members will develope interactive Google Slides that enhance summer learning opportunities in an online format. Accepted applicants will be enrolled as an AmeriCorps member and will be required to serve a minimum of 300 hours throughout the duration of the program in one of the following elementary schools: Hilldale, Western Oaks or Tulakes.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 17 years of age
  • A high school graduate (as of May 2022) or has passed the GED
  • A citizen of the United States a National or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien of the United States with supporting documenation
  • Dependable transportation

 

Reports to: Site Manager/Program Director

 

Required Documentation for Employment:

  • Government Issued photo I.D. (e.g. Driver's License)
  • Birth Certificate
  • Social Security Card
  • Must clear a sexual offender and criminal history background checks

 

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Lead enrichment classes with pre-determined curricula to no more than 20 students
  • Assist in overseeing breakfast and eating lunch with students for the summer enrichment program
  • Lead students in various games/sports/brain breaks which may require running, jumping and light to heavy aerobic-type exercise
  • Interact with students as a positive role model utilizing quality techniques
  • Track daily service times and record hours online weekly
  • Log weekly reflections and complete program evaluations
  • Develop interactive Google Slides based on academic standards

Terms of Participation:

May 23, 2022 - July 22, 2022

Commit to serving 300 or more service hours by participating from 8:00 am-4:00pm Monday through Friday.

 

Training:

Over 30 hours of training will be required before the program starts.  Training will include topics such as Americoprs 101, classroom management, lesson planning, how to create interactive Google Slides and professionalism in the workplace.

 

Salary Range:

The AmeriCorps member will receive a $1,600 living allowance in June and July (not to exceed $3,200) and a $1,374 educational award upon completion of the program and serving 300 or more hours.
